Technical Requirements for Participation

To: All Students  From: Yossie, Tutor  Subject: Online Research and Computer

As a student enrolled in a comprehensive program of the BSA Faculty, you will spend several hours at the computer, particularly for online research, writing essays, contacting tutors through the online campus, and via email. Access to a suitable computer is therefore of great importance. The study programs offered by this faculty consist of off-campus elements (distance learning, eLearning, remote studies) and frequently several on-campus components (seminars, 1:1 tutoring, group sessions, exams, and various practical training programs).

Access to a suitable computer should ideally be available privately at your home; access via internet cafés, etc., is not recommended and could be a significant disadvantage. The computer should meet a normal, technical, and current standard. The following is recommended:

  • A modern and fast PC, laptop, or notebook
  • Windows 11 or higher - other operating systems may also work, but we have not tested all of them
  • A modern, secure browser - cookies and JavaScript must be enabled - we recommend CHROME or EDGE browsers
  • At least 2-3 GB of hard drive space for study purposes, particularly for various eBooks
  • A USB port is helpful
  • The latest version of Acrobat Reader
  • A Windows Office package or other software capable of handling WORD, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; a free alternative is OpenOffice

If you currently do not own a personal computer, internet access, or an email account, but are considering making a purchase, we strongly recommend acquiring a suitable Windows/Intel-based notebook. Some of our electronic study materials may not run on Apple devices. We recommend reputable, high-quality brands such as Dell, Sony, Toshiba, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, or NEC, with at least a 2-year warranty. A second battery is advisable.

In general, a current antivirus protection is also highly recommended.

During the first two semesters of various study programs, you will learn specialized online research techniques, especially for legal professionals. A suitable computer will become your most important work tool. Therefore, you should, if possible, invest in a suitable computer at the start of your studies if one is not already available.
